Due to the stringent criteria, inspection and enforcement procedures of the Ghana Food & Drugs Board, pharmaceutical products manufactured in Ghana are highly recognized.
As cited by the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Industry in Ghana, Ghana’s pharmaceutical manufacturing sector currently comprises of 38 registered firms, employing a wide range of professionals including pharmacists, chemists, engineers and technologists.
Ghana’s local industry has a capacity for both solid and liquid dosage
forms to supply all domestic needs as well as enough for export throughout the entire African region. However, currently, the Ghanaian pharmaceutical market is made up of approximately 70% imported products (mainly from India and China) and only 30% locally produced products.
